Verbal Kink - To the Rats (CD Rom)
Thrust into my hand after seeing them live (the price was right) this is a four track e.p. by Verbal Kink. Verbal Kink play heavy metal. No, wait, Verbal Kink play grunge. I think. Maybe it’s heavy-grunge. Either way it sounds like Thoria doing Metallica covers. As daunting as this may sound it’s not actually a bad thing, it’s quite good even. The metal riffs are all here but they’re groovier and the vocals are pure droning grunge. Somehow it all adds up to make quite cool music. But wait, that’s not all, if you have access to a PC you get a load of extra goodies including a slightly scary and cheap video, band biographies, band member’s stories told as comic strips (quite good and funny ones too, kudos to anyone who badmouths Creed using Arthurian legend), desktop wallpapers, web links, interactive menus and photo galleries. Which is all rather generous of the Kink boys, don’t you think?
