I enjoyed Lloyd Williams a lot last night, but that was mostly due to an increased emo factor. See, my emo factor is usually about two. Last night I was drunk which equates to emo times two making me a four. I was also depressed (emo times three) and lonely (emo times four) giving me a whopping emo score of 48. It is because of this that a solo acoustic guitar emo act was right up my alley. Hell, I'd of probably listened to Dashboard Confessional without vomiting. To be fair though Lloyd Williams really is one of the best at what he does, he has a very impressive voice and he's a decent guitarist, despite a couple of dischords every now and then, and if you want to hear something like this you could do much, much worse. The upshot of it all now is that I really want to see him with a full band though, so hopefully he'll be coming back soon.

Major, major gripe first. The drums sounded way too loud to me, especially when I was up the front. The bass drum was ridiculous. I don't know if this is just because it was in a small room or whether the sound levels were wrong or what but it did get annoying at times. On the other hand it is a testament to how good Mad Library are that despite this I still found myself getting completely lost in the music at times. Saxophones are sexy, especially after consuming ten quids worth of wine, and it really, really hit the spot for me. They were back to playing an instrumental set tonight and while they are still excellent like this I do think they are better with a vocalist at times, sometimes they seem to lack a leading instrument and a singer has given the music a more dynamic edge before. Some tracks though, Sounds Like Time for instance, really are perfect the way they are and don't need anything about them changed. Pure ecstacy at times and always worth watching.
