Simple Kid - 1
Right then, what should I call my first album? Simple by name, simple by nature I suppose. Imagine what would happen if Bob Dylan and Frank Zappa had made a twenty first century guitar pop album. Then forget it, because that’s not much like this, it’s just the best analogy I could manage. The opening track, aptly enough, is Hello which is a pretty good example of the music Simple Kid makes catchy, eccentric guitar pop with odd little samples thrown in to boot. The vocals are a bit like a boyish Damon Albarn and the lyrics are smart, funny and clever. The music has a nice variety from Blur-ish pop (Staring At The Sun) to Bob Dylan-ish folk pop (Truck On) to the (almost) instrumental Love’s An Enigma. The only constants are that you’ll almost definitely be humming them a few days later. Very well made for a debut, home recorded record as well, Simple Kid has a very promising musical future spreading out in front of him, here’s to hoping he makes the most of it.
